The Briefing Book
A beginner’s guide to biotech
A free learning resource for biotech beginners
Biotech companies are very dynamic and can be excellent environments to accelerate your growth. Whether you are joining from a large biopharma, a services company or academia, there can be a real learning curve at first. Resource constraints and small size mean things look and function differently. This free learning resource is intended to demystify how small biotechs work. Grab a coffee and get ready to explore some of the most commonly asked questions about small biotechs.
A “briefing book” is a background document provided to regulatory agencies, in order to give reviewers the necessary background, data and context for a program they are considering. This resource is your “briefing book” for preparing to transition into biotech.

About Me
I would describe myself as an all-around biotech strategist and operator who loves to build, inspire and make things happen. After training for a career in clinical pharmacy, I jumped into drug development and never looked back (25 years and counting). I have worked in small, medium and large companies, where I had the privilege of developing many impactful drugs, working with incredible people and building a wide array of skillsets. My expertise includes preclinical and clinical development, program management, manufacturing, executive leadership, startups, and governance (and a little bit of investing).
This blog was inspired by content I have developed over many years for career talks and mentoring meetings. I noticed that as a CEO and board member, I get a lot of the same questions when I am chatting with people who are trying to understand how things work in a small biotech company. This is a free, unsponsored/unaffiliated resource. It includes a lot of my personal experience and perspective. Ultimately I hope that this blog will inspire more talent to join biotech companies and will help talent better understand how biotech companies can thrive.
Thanks for visiting the Briefing Book!
